Pot de Crème au Chocolat Recipe →
We made some of these chocolate creams. Like rich, thick pudding, but better :d  We adapted it a bit with more sugar, using Scharffenberger’s dark chocolate.   A little thicker than I would prefer, but still very rich and delicious.  We topped ours with a bit of fresh, sweetened, whipped cream (chantilly cream).   Pot de Crème au Chocolat Recipe by Chef Alex Stanislaw of The Plantation...

Cupcakes are Dead. Long Live the Pie - NPR  →
Cake and cupcakes are a big deal, but we absolutely love pie here at Shweet.  We welcome the era of pie domination, even if it is a temporary trend. Whatever you eat, save room for a slice of pie. [Amen.]

The science and imagination behind modern dessert  →
Read Adam Gopnik’s “Sweet Revolution: The power of the pastry chef” online at New Yorker Photo: Albert Adrià’s falling chocolate trunk filled with frozen chocolate powder, on a forest floor of lime-and-mint yogurt, with almond praline, puffed quinoa, and green-pistachio streusel. From the article: “I happen not to like sweets,” he said as we sat down after dinner and he began...

Bobby Flay Discusses Staying Healthy, Great... →
Excerpt from interview with Bobby Flay (@bobbyflay) What measures do you take to stay healthy? The two things that I do that I think are most important are to obviously exercise, constantly. I run about five or six days a week. I just got finished running the New York City Marathon last Sunday. I’d sort of been in training for that. For me, running is the best way to stay in shape and keep off...

Pop-up Pie Shop in L.A. this Thursday →
Cupcakes are sooo 2006. In 2011, it’s all about pie. This Thursday, pop-up pie shop in L.A.   Mmmm….. pie :d  I can’t tell you how relieved I am that the tide seems to be turning from cupcakes to pie, which I adore much more. It’s been said before, but 2011 is definitely shaping up to be the year of pie. Here’s a few slices of the pie scene:  On Thursday, Machine...

Lemon Ricotta Softies
I made more of these lemony shweet softies today - yummers. Even weirdos who don’t like lemony sweets won’t mind a bite or three of these deliciously tart cookies. They are softer than the average cookie, a bit fluffy to the bite. I call them “Softies” when we adapt the recipe, and I try to use Meyer Lemons for a nice, round sweetness to the cookies. Below is...

Tracking the Ancestry of Corn Back 9,000 Years
It is now growing season across the Corn Belt of the United States. Seeds that have just been sown will, with the right mixture of sunshine and rain, be knee-high plants by the Fourth of July and tall stalks with ears ripe for picking by late August. Corn is much more than great summer picnic food, however. Civilization owes much to this plant, and to the early people who first cultivated it. ...

Easy Gluten-Free Peanut Butter Cookies - Tummy... →
Peanut Butter Cookies are very simple to make at home, and it’s very easy to make it gluten-free, as long as you find the right ingredients. This recipe below is a standard PB cookie recipe, but I normally don’t use baking soda, and sometimes add a bit of vanilla when making my pb cookies. I was in a hurry to bring something sweet to one of my student meetings one night when...
